Top overhauling is the process of servicing the upper part of a diesel engine — mainly the cylinder head, valves, and injectors — without removing the, pistons or crankshaft.
When Does Your Generator Need a Top Overhaul?
Your generator may need top overhauling if:
It starts with difficulty
It makes unusual noises or vibrates
You notice black, blue, or white smoke from the exhaust
It uses more fuel or oil than usual
Minor Overhauling
Minor overhauling means checking and repairing the top parts of the engine, like the pistons, cylinder head, valves, and injectors, without opening the full engine block or crankshaft.
When Does Your Generator Need a Minor Overhaul?
Minor overhauling is recommended after extended operating hours or when your generator shows signs of:
Your generator has run 5,000 to 10,000 hours
It is using more fuel or oil than normal
Liner piston jammed
There is black, blue, or white smoke from the exhaust
